There was great joy in the Valley at the weekend when the u14 footballers beat off the challenge of a gallant Glenmore side to win the Roinn C County Final at Ballyhale on Saturday 2nd February. This was a great performance and the team and their mentors deserve great praise. It was a tough and physical game with Glenmore opening the score with a point. This was quickly responded to with two fast goals from Adam Canning and Bill O'Brien. Glenmore kicked over two more points and Graig added two points from frees from Robert Doyle and one each from Adam Canning and James Doyle to leave the half time score 2-04 to 0-03. The second half was a tough encounter with Glenmore adding three more points to reduce the margin to five. Glenmore were coming hard but the defence stood firm, another converted free from Robert Doyle and a great point from play from DJ Campbell sealed the win for Graig. The score read 2-06 to 0-06 when the final whistle sounded to the delight of the players and supporters. Michael Bolger in goal brought off a few excellent saves. the back line of Ciaran O'Brien, Lee Kinsella and James Meaney were firm and strongly aided by Adam Kennedy, Eoin Bolger and Thomas O'Donnell in the half back line. Robert Doyle and James Doyle were the driving force in the middle of the field, and the six forwards Bill O'Brien, Jim Ryan, Michael Coady, Seamus Kavanagh, Bernard Hennessy and Adam Canning fought hard for every ball and took some brilliant scores. Dj Campbell and Kelly Anne Whelan played their part when introduced and the other subs James McCabe, Patrick Dowling, Stephen Browne, Liam Hearne, Ciaran Manning and Jack Conran were ready willing and able had they been called upon. well done boys you got 2008 off to a great start!! Thanks to Seamus Canning for all his hard work throughout the year with this team. Also thanks to Kevin Moran and Jim O'Donnell for their help with the coaching.
