St. Patrick's Ballyraggett 3-10 St. Fiacres 1-5

Our U14 boys came up a little short against a very strong and determined St. Patrick's side in Clara last Saturday. It proved to be 3rd time lucky for the winners as we had beaten them twice already during the summer.

Played in very tough and blustery conditions, we made a very fast start with early points from Jason Byrne and Sean Holden. It proved ultimately to be costly that we failed to find the net in the early exchanges during our dominance. Ballyraggett began to get more possession and went ahead before 2 more points from Paddy Heffernan and Sean Holden left us 3 adrift at half time on a scoreline of 0-7 to 0-4.

The first score of the second half was going to be crucial but unfortunately it was a St. Patrick's goal, who eventually found a way past the outstanding Keelin O Grady in the St. Fiacres Goal. Some tigerish defending from the boys was impressive against a bigger, more physical side with Sean Walsh at Full Back and Sean Cosgrave at Centre Back keeping us in touch.

A great O Grady save on 38 minutes lifted the team which was followed a minute later with a great finish from Oisin Aylward who found the back of the Ballyraggett net. 20 minutes left and all to play for being only 3 points down.

Unfortunately that momentum only lasted briefly as St. Patrick's broke and goaled to leave 6 between the sides. Despite all our efforts to close the gap as a Sean Holden effort went just over the bar for a point, it was the opposition though who finished the stronger and some late scores gave them a deserved win on a slightly flattering scoreline.

All of the lads can hold their heads very high on a year when they proved to be a very formidable force and well done to all and special thanks to the 4 Team Mentors, John Byrne, Brendan Savage, John O Grady and Brian Cross for their efforts and dedication throughout the year.
