Joe Walsh Cup Final. Congratulations to the Junior B Hurlers who showed great determination and skill to overcome a battling St. Lachtain’s side to win the Joe Walsh Cup in splendid Thomastown on Friday last. The Graignamanagh men outscored their opponents by 3.14 to 1.12 in a highly competitive game of hurling. The Barrow Boys held a comfortable lead going in at half time 2.08 to 0.04 with scores coming from Seamus Kavanagh 1.02, Cathal Roche 0.01, Ryan O’Halloran 0.03(2F) Nicky Moylan 1.00, Jim Ryan 0.01 Nigel Flynn 0.01. Freshford threw everything they had at us in the second half but our young back six stood firm to the test, Ciaran O’Brien, James Meaney, Thomas O Donnell, Nicholas O’Donnell, Jim O'Donnell & Sean O’Brien and Ian Kavanagh pulled off a few vital saves between the posts. The Graig lads never looked in any real danger of conceding their lead and picked off some lovely scores to keep their opponents at bay. Nicky Moylan & Cathal Roche tacked on 2 points each, Dane Mangan sent over a lovely point to ensure all six forwards got on the score sheet and not to be outdone John Carroll came on and drilled home a sideline cut to the net and added a point from a free. There was great jubilation from the large crowd of Graig supporters when Paul Hamilton was presented with the Joe Walsh Cup. Great praise must go to Syl Cushen and Alan Foley selectors for all their dedication during the year. Thanks to Pat Doyle for the refreshments after the game.
